This was the card we gave Paul for his birthday at ChicagoTARDIS in 2004. Em asked me to design a card which we could all sign, but I, of course, got carried away and literally wrote a book. Wink We all did, actually. Seeing as how we refer to ourselves as a 'library', I decided to design the card to look like a book, an old book at that--something we might imagine Lt. Bush reading, as he was, for many of us, our first introduction to the lovely Mr. McGann. Smile

I also included a picture of everyone with their message, because I wanted him to have more of a sense of who we all are--and I knew what a kick everyone would get out of knowing Paul had a visual image of them, too! It was given to him several weeks after his birthday (which is on November 14th), but we thought it would be more fun to present it to him in person at the con, with the rest of his gifts. Very Happy

So away we go!

THE TARDIS CARD 2004

The front cover--the old Library logo,
and 'faux antique leather' bound with brass 'chotchkies'
(hoping they're still sticking on and he's not vacuuming
them off the floor of his flat as we speak Surprised Wink ).
I purposely went for 'textural', as Paul seems like a very
tactile guy to me--and I thought he'd enjoy the feel of this
in his hands Wink ...

The inside front cover...

The inside back cover--
with a pocket for artwork by Suz and Sheepie Smile ...

The 'Title Page'--with a gorgeous conté crayon drawing
of Paul as Lt. Bush by our own Jo (Blackhound) Smile ...

'The Preface' (or 'a word from the author' Wink )--
sort of an 'intro', as the Library was very new then,
and I wanted Paul to have a little back history on how we came about...

Each 'librarian' had her own page in the card to let Paul know how she discovered him, and tell him about some of her personal 'PMG favorites'.

Rather than alphabetically, I entered them by join dates as Library members, starting with the divine Miz Em--but quite honestly after myself, I'm a little hazy on who joined when at the old Library, so they may be a little out of order after Akka or so. Very Happy

Hope you can read them all--the paper was actually ivory and more aged looking, btw, but it came up pretty white in the scans...

Em (Miz Em)

Karin (Lindsaygirl/Bushblower)

Maddy (knights and knaves/down east)

Cherry (Stormfire)

Thanks Rollande! Smile It does bring back some great memories, to be sure. That was such a fairytale weekend! I wanted to make sure it was re-documented here, this time around, too.

I live in fear, however, of the condition the card may be in now. Sad A chotchkie or two forever embedded in the lining of Paul's suitcase here, the front logo yellowing unevenly, and bubbling up from old glue, there... Wish Grace had been around for 'paper pointers' when I was assembling it! Wink (Hopefully my old graphic design tricks have some staying power. Confused )

Not to mention the fact that Andie's little 'crosstitch saga' gave me the fear of how he may have packed it for the trip home to England. Shocked

I know. I'm starting to feel guilty for not receiving it yet. Confused

Yes I remember that episode.....I hope that crosstich is still intact since Andie said that it took her about 8(?)years to finish it....

Men just don't know how to pack precious things like that!!
