~Another salvaged thread off the EZ Board Library--all the responses to this are gone, but that's OK, now we can make new ones! Very Happy~

Well due to the fact that we've given Paul a bit of a hard time on his somewhat 'minimalist' wardrobe at Galley in February Wink, I thought we now owe him a big round of applause for the extremely commendable effort he put forth for the TARDIS con! Very Happy

I think Paul proved that he has a great sense of style (when he's in the mood), and can put together a really great looking, workable wardrobe for a long casual weekend in the public eye. He combined some really nice neutrals in different textures, and his favorite neutral--black--with jeans, a few well chosen accessories (scarves), and a pair of classic 'dress up or down' black boots (which I like to think were slightly 'Beatle' inspired ) that he wore with all.

Every piece worked with every other piece, and I thought he looked smashing the entire weekend! He achieved the perfect 'style balance' for a man his age: 'hip'--without trying to look too young and trendy; classic--without looking passť; and stylish--without looking like he tried too hard. I thought he looked masculine and wonderful.

Let's have another gander at that well pulled together wardrobe--shall we? (These are not my pics, but rather a compilation of many people's--hope they don't mind I used them here! Many of them are from Estelle's fantastic, gi-normous, not-to-be-missed TARDIS '04 photo collection here:

http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?start=220&selected=1073580.

Our first glimpse of Paul: in a gorgeous gray woolen suit
with his signature black 'T' underneath, set off with a
red patterned silk kerchief in the breast pocket, and an
artfully tied soft black scarf at his neck. The words 'natty',
'dapper', and 'hot Brit' come to mind--don't you think?
I'll bet he drove the flight attendants to distraction in it Wink...

In the bar--fresh off the plane!

Opening ceremonies...

Day 2: Ready to get busy on his first panel: Paul made
a great entrance by pairing his signature black 'T' this time
with a slightly weathered cotton taupe colored jacket that
contrasted nicely with relaxed fit blue jeans. His black boots
'classed' it up a notch, and he added interest with another
beautiful soft, fringed scarf--this time in 'oatmeal'.
(The scarf was quickly discarded--due, I would guess,
to the fact that the building was excessively warm.)
'Comfortable' and 'weekend sexy' are the way
I'd describe this look--'nuff said.

Hip and boheme!

Day 3: Well, the signature black 'T' had to make at least
one solo appearance! (I suppose 'freedom of movement'
is key to maneuvering one's way around a breakfast buffet
while juggling two plates--can't be letting one's jacket cuffs
and scarf fringe drag through the fruit dip and maple syrup,
after all! ) Paul does look great in this basic 'T'--the 'V'
makes his athletic neck look like a million bucks, too--and again,
it was hotter than hell in there, which I'm sure the sternos
didn't help, either!!

At zee brunch, Sunday morning...

Day 3: Autographs for the fangirls in a classic, long sleeved,
black ribbed cotton(?) sweater that zipped bottom to top,
again with jeans. The sleeves were slightly 'over-long', too--
another signature PMG look we love--adds to the 'hipness' factor, too.
We got to watch him saunter past on his way down the hall
(sending a little 'Hiya!' our way ), and catch 'the WALK' from behind wearing this--
as you know, ribbing is very form fitting and did wonderfully 'defining' things to
Paul's shoulders, arms, and waist! Wink

Day 3: OK, we know he didn't bring this with him--
but he did choose to wear it, and it was the last thing many of us
saw him in! Proud to say we contributed to an
outstanding TARDIS wardrobe with: zee (zed?) 'Chicago Bears' jacket!!
We got cheeky and added a 'WHO 8' to the back, which the crowd loved.
He looked amazing in it--the color was perfect (check out what
it's doing with those eyes! ), it fit him great, it brought out his
'jocky/soccer coach' side , and the crowd ate it up!
When Paul wore it in to his last interview, he 'backed up' to the
stage so the jacket back was not in view of the audience, said,
'Like the jacket?', backed up the stage steps, then said,
'Well check this out...' and turned around to show the WHO 8.
What more could you want for a show-stopping con finale?!
Very Happy

Handsome 'Englishman in the NFL for a day' ...

La front...

Le back...

Think somebody forgot to cut the tag out. Confused Poor guy...

And there you have it--Paul's TARDIS '04 wardrobe.

WELL DONE, PAUL!!! *applause!*

Yay! I was looking for these jacket pics just the other day! I wish I'd seen him walking backwards onto the stage and then turning around to show the back of the jacket. It sounds so precious!

And thanks for posting Estelle's link! I've always loved this pic:

Edit: I can't make it work!

Well done, Teri.

The Chicago Tardis 2004 Season

He looked great in the Chicago Bears jacket. And you're right, the crowd loved it.

The jeans with tape jacket combo was an especially well put together number.

Hey, you should write for a fashion magazine!!!

Thank you Maddy. Smile

I debated even reposting this thread, because I cringed a little when I re-read it. The old 'Oi--did I really write that??' Surprised bug bit me. But it was the reverie and revelry of the moment, and the ensuing insanity may as well be documented, too! Laughing

I think TARDIS '04 got a little lost in the shuffle (both here and abroad) since the old board went down, and I've been feeling a sudden urgency to salvage whatever flotsam there still is floating around. Confused

I'd love to see everyone post about whatever they can remember about it, too, along with any pics they might have yet.

*hint hint* Wink

CT2004 was so much fun. I even felt like I had the right dose of Paul that time around, compared to Gally, when he had to leave early to film Lie With Me. I've got more goodies to post for all these con headings.

Now my son Mark liked our last trip to Chicago better than when he accompanied me in 2004. While he knew that I would be hanging out with all you guys and ogling Paul McGann, he thought he'd be able to walk out of the hotel and be in Chicago proper and not in Rosemont twenty miles away. This past November his brother Stephen came along, too, and we spent Saturday in downtown Chicago and wandered around the Art Institute. And on Sunday when I was with you, warinbabylon, Bex, Andie, and Cathy, Stephen and Mark were exploring downtown Chicago together.

I know--when I think back now, that we were literally sequestered in a hotel with Paul for three nights, and three days--it's a wonder more revelry didn't ensue, is all I can say! Laughing Estelle, why I didn't let you drag me into the bar by the hair Sunday night, is beyond completely beyond me!

What were we thinking??? Shocked

I think we didn't want to seem too intrusive at the time. I spoke briefly to Andie in the hotel parking lot late that night after Mark and I had come back with drinks from a nearby convenience stores (boy, that hotel was stifling hot). She told me about her lovely encounter with Paul in the bar and added that Cathy was still in there. Mark asked me if I wanted to hang out in the bar with McGann, and I declined.

If we ever meet up with Paul again, we should offer to buy him a drink. It seemed to work out well when Carolyn Edwards did so at Ascension.

I know, but in retrospect, I don't really think he would've minded. He looked as if he was feeling pretty mellow by then, and we could've sat far, far away, barely perceptible to the naked eye. Confused

And then we could've 'lured' him with our world class billiard skills. Wink

Ah, Teri, that picture cracks me up almost as much as this one of me and Gary Russell:

Good ones Teri!!!!.....While I was reading this thread, it's too bad that instead of the big room upstairs where we had our little gettogether, we could have had it at the bar downstairs. I think Paul would have felt more comfortable in that environment and maybe he would have joined us....just speculation of course(considering we were all sitting with him at the bar shortly after his arrival).

I also remember that Terri, Maddy and I had to leave early on that Sunday and missed Paul wearing the Dr Who jacket and the Paul, India interview. I think we all had a great time in Chicago nonetheless and we were sorry to leave.

Oh well, here's to the next one!!!

Those are such cute pics of Teri and Estelle!

Well, after seeing those pics, sure, Paul would gladly join you for a beer and game of snooker, I mean, billards (POOL.)

Now I'd love to see pictures of that!

Yes, it was a blast, meeting all those people, I can't believe I did that.
It was making me laugh, while walking down the hallway on Saturday night on the way to the SUITE, or from the suite (I can't remember) and practically all the doors were open along the way, as an invite to people to join in on the various parties. It was like...a college campus with all the political factions organizing to take over the universities in the 1960's. But I digress. You had the LOTR crowd, the Star Trek crowd and so forth. Tris and I were on the hunt for fresh fruit, so we crashed a couple of parties, with no fruit success. But we had fun, and that's what counts!

I'm just re-reading some of the old posts of days past with Paul and as usual wishing I could have been there! Hard to believe I had no idea the man existed at this time - what a missed opportunity! If he ever comes back here for a con or whatever, I say we definitely need to take every opportunity available! That seems to be a theme - regrets of missed McGann time! After all, he won't be here long and he's here to be seen and visit with his fans! Lovely pics everyone - and great write-up!
