According to Paul's page in his agent's website, he will play Hugo Dore in a Jonathan Creek episode called "The Judas Tree".

Here's what the Jonathan Creek Homepage has to say about it so far.

Does anyone care to speculate on what his character will be like? The plot point says the episode will have a supernatural theme...interesting! In any case, it's great to see that Paul will work with Sheridan in yet another project. I wish them luck on the episode and hope we get to watch it sometime.

Oh. WOW.

I'm such a Creek fan, it's not even funny.

If you're not familiar with the show, it's basically the modern answer to the old locked-room mysteries. The main character is this grungeball little guy who lives in a windmill and designs magic tricks for a David Copperfield one-off ... and then solves mysteries on the side using the stuff he knows from making those stage illusions.

I've seen every episode. *sniffle* And Sheridan was excellent in Grinning Man.

Huh ... and I just realised, Paul will be the third Doctor to appear on the show! (Colin Baker was the victim in the first episode, The Wrestler's Tomb, and Peter Davison was a major character in the first episode of second season, Danse Macabre.)

Alan Davies on his Twitter confirmed the Easter release date, saying something like 'The BBC apparently think you'd rather have the new special next Easter instead of this Christmas.' Sad

I'm glad somebody here has watched the show, and a fan of it no less! Smile

I'd never seen it thus had no idea what to expect, so thanks for the synopsis. It sounds like something I could get into and it's so cool that 2 other Doctors have been on the show. So nice of Paul to continue the trend. Wink

There is some underlying continuity to it (mainly to do with Jonathan's boss), but I think you can sort of jump in on it without too much prior knowledge.

Man, I've already been chewing through the walls waiting for the new special ... now I'm exponentially more excited! Looking forward to seeing how multiple actors I like interact.

I've seen every episode of Jonathan Creek except The Grinning Man. I would love to see that and, of course The Judas Tree. As for The Grinning Man, I've only had a little taste of it in the following Youtube video:

The first three seasons and one special had Jonathan with a lady named Maddy (Caroline Quentin), who was this sort of OTT overeager investigative journalist. Fourth season and another special had Carla, who was played by Julie Sawahla (who was dating Alan Davies at the time). She was a TV reporter and just ... didn't really do too great on the show.

Sheridan's character is famous for debunking myths online, so when she and Jonathan work together you get two people who are famous for doing the same thing differently -- and they both have very different personalities. She comes in very self-assured and then sort of slowly learns how clever he is. They had fantastic chemistry.

I'm so curious as to what sort of part Paul will play -- the one-shot characters for each story tend to be incredibly well-rounded (but they sorta have to be in murder mysteries, don't they?).

Just a heads up for Aussie viewers - Jonathan Creek will air from this coming Sunday at 8.30 pm on ABC1, so at least we can get to see one half of the dynamic audio duo for the time being

Following Alan Davies' Twitter, he's been talking about filming right now, though he's mentioned working with other actors so far and not Paul.

Favourite quote so far, from Saturday:

'Day off...learning Creek's lines, well someone's got to solve it...'

let's just hope that the name listed in this site is a typo and that this episode will indeed star our Paul.

The link seems to be broken. Sad

BTW, Alan Davies mentioned on his Twitter the other day that he was on his way to a screening of The Judas Tree, but he never followed up on it. Just went back to talking about football. Wink

(Semi-related, I've been wondering lately how Paul and Alan got along on the set. Alan's a rabid Arsenal supporter. Rolling Eyes )

Mikoto-san~ Maybe PM's done filming since they're already screening? Also, I've enjoyed listening to a few of A Davies' podcasts and I thought about the Arsenal/Liverpool FC thing too. Wink

I think they've been done, since I recall Alan talking about trying to learn his lines over weekends and that was a bit back. I'm rewatching third season right now (for the third time, with another group of friends who haven't seen it), and it's just making me edgy waiting for this one. Evil or Very Mad

Easter brings Creek, Who, and Discworld. I'm going insane waiting for all three!

ETA: Hour and a half? Good, a properly long special!
